Winter Camping and Insulin Storage

Tagged:

hi folks! i'm new to this website, so my apologies if i'm beating horse that's already dead, but i haven't been able to find specifics on insulin storage on extended expeditions/winter camping trips. i'm an avid ski tourer, and have many days ski touring in the canadian backcountry. most of my days out are day trips from huts or from local road accessed touring points. this spring, i am planning on doing a 2 week trip up on the lilloet glacier in the coastal range of british columbia. this will involve living out of a tent for 2 weeks and winter camping! i've figured out a system that works for me with regards to my pump/glucometer function during the day, but i am wondering what to do with my insulin cache while i am out ski touring all day. the temps will probably be around -10C but could get colder. i wondered about storing the insulin in my down sleeping bag with a warm water bottle, but i wanted to know what other people have done on mountaineering/winter camping trips? it seems impractical to keep all my insulin stores on my body everyday.....
thx!

Hello Sweetlife,

A few weeks of insulin is easy enough to store on you body during the trip. A little pouch can do all this. Yes, we have spoken about this and if you search this site for "idea bag" you'll find my version.

Sounds like a great spring ski tour. Enjoy! dp
